DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are needed to get 9\,500 shrub-steppe plants into the ground at Swanson Lakes Wildlife Area on Saturday\, Nov. 6. \nThe Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) effort is part of the restoration of the area after last year’s wildfire destroyed habitat for sharp-tailed and sage grouse and other wildlife. WDFW staff will drill planting holes for volunteers to drop plants in and tamp them in place. \nVolunteers will meet at the area headquarters at 9 a.m. for shuttling to the planting site about a mile northeast. Planting will continue until about 3 p.m. to allow travel home before dark. \n

DESCRIPTION:Volunteer Birch Tree Planting Project for \nSharp-tailed Grouse Winter Habitat \n  \nWhen:  October 23\, 2021\, 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM \nWhere:  Telford Management Area\, BLM Public Lands in Lincoln County\, WA. \n*RSVP requested by Oct. 15.  \nVolunteers are needed to: \n  \n1) Lay out and stake down weed mat on ground\, \n2) Use motorized hand augers to drill planting holes\, \n3) Plant 90 water birch trees\, \n4) Construct enclosures around the trees using t-posts and hog panels.  \n  \nLight refreshments will be provided. \n  \n\nThe project will improve riparian habitat for sharp-tailed grouse\, migratory songbirds\, and mule deer.\nWater birch (Betula occendentalis) provides critical winter habitat for sharp-tailed grouse\, a state-threatened species. \nThe project is coordinated with the Swanson Lakes Wildlife Area and will support an existing population of approximately 50 sharp-tailed grouse.\nThe project is located on Lake Creek alongside wetlands that were restored by Ducks Unlimited in 2009.\nBirch trees planted in 2010 are thriving on-site\, and we will add 90 more!

DESCRIPTION:The family of Ed Weiler MC will be hosting a memorial in his honor at the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council hall on July 10th at 11am.  The memorial garden committee and the INWC board have voted to add both Ed and Lynn Weiler to the memorial wall as a thank you for their long standing dedication to the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council. Their plaques will be added to the memorial wall. \n  \nCOVID notice – currently the governor’s covid guidance states that 75 people are allowed in the council at one time. Unvaccinated individuals are still required to wear facemasks at indoor gatherings. We will keep updating the covid guidance as we learn more from the Governor’s office.
